Wahoo

(Acanthocybium solandri)

Maturity at: 85 cm in length

Max Published Size: 250 cm and over 180 pounds

ThT Record: 103 pounds (official)

TnT Season: Year round with peaks from Nov to Apr

IUCN status: Least concern

General Information: Oceanic found near the surface.  Frequently solitary or forming small loose aggregations of a few individuals.  Feed on fishes and squids. Eggs and larvae are pelagic. Although wahoo populations can be affected by heavy commercial fishing activities, they are not as susceptible as tunas and other pelagic fish that travel in more compact groups. Highly appreciated in the sport fishing industry due to their initial speed and good quality flesh. Marketed fresh, salted or spice-cured slices of meat; also frozen.  In Trinidad and Tobago is a very common species, highly appreciated and demanded.
