General Information: Oceanic species usually found above the thermocline in deep (over 300 ft) blue water with surface temperatures over 22°C. Currents of 0.5 to 2 knots occur over much of its habitat. Normally rare and solitary but it can also be found in small groups. Their distribution show a seasonal variation, reaching higher latitudes only during warm seasons. Feeds on fish and squid. Females grow larger. Commonly caught as bycatch in longline fisheries. Flesh of excellent quality. Marketed fresh and frozen.  In Tobago is rare but it can be caught often between November and May.
