General Information: Found in coastal waters, mainly around coral reefs. Usually swims well above the bottom, frequently in aggregations. They occur near the surface to depth of up to 600 ft. Feed on plankton and benthic animals including fishes, crustaceans, worms, gastropods and cephalopods, mainly at night. Young individuals are usually found over weed beds. They feed primarily on plankton. Spawning occurs throughout the year, with peaks at different times in different areas. Important commercially as well as a game fish.  Marketed fresh and frozen. Has been reared in captivity.  Very common and highly appreciated in Trinidad and Tobago waters.
